To me, this looks like an effort to be attractive the non-ACDSee user. It doesn’t use the standard Microsoft file handler module, it does show the thumbnail and is much more suited to photo browsing.

I can’t find a decent photo browser on the Mac; Finder’s thumbnail view is pathetically incompetent, because it doesn’t wrap the window’s contents or even space them equally. It’s baffling in its defectiveness. But the PC version allows the user to display extremely large thumbnails, and allows you to display a significant amount of user selectable Exif and other metadata below each thumbnail.
