I can’t begin to tell anyone who reads this review that, in its present state, this is by far the worst flight simulator I have ever purchased!!
Which in itself is quite a statement! I’ve been awaiting this title for several years and have diligently scanned the progress reports from the publishers. There was continual updates posted of awesome screen-shots and videos of the planned aircraft and the amount of detail that was going to be put into the flight model and the 3-D objects both airplanes and ground objects.
As is the case with their older version of their flag-ship title now known as IL-2 Sturmovik: , this was supposed to be revolutionary in its realism and detail. BTW, is still hanging in there and extremely enjoyable due in most part by the dedicated and praise-worthy work of Team Daidalos a 3rd party developer that has permission from the original creator to produce awesome FREE improvements and modifications.
But in all my years of flight simming I’ve yet had such a big build-up for something that was delivered in such a useless state!! I could spend a lot of time listing all of the defects but the most important is the quality of start-up and install requirements. It took me several attempts through a mandatory separate install system company called “Steam” to actually get it loaded. Afterwards the disappointments start to accumulate. They range from the fact that my very advanced and brand new PC system not being able to get anywhere near an acceptable frame rate and simulation performance.
To the fact that I couldn’t get the program to acknowledge my joystick even the most rudimentary flight sims can recognize a joystick when attached to a PC!!! Weel what I ended up with is only being able to fly the simulator on very coarse settings for just about every graphics setting using the keyboard to issue flight commands it was like time-traveling back to !!!
This delivers an experience that is very disappointing in its stuttering of motion and 3-D models that have no detail and bland at best! There was no enjoyment of performing the simplest of flight maneuvers!
And aerial combat was impossible with the way that the objects jerked across the simulated sky!! I’ve been to the support website of the software publisher with its listserv and bulletin-boards and pretty much all I’ve been told was to “dumb down” the graphics and put up with what my PC can produce.
And how condesending to tell your customers that they have “put up” with an inept product! But this version and release of this software product is very disheartening! So my suggestion is to not get this title until they have seriously improved it Cheers to all in the flight-sim community! Verified Purchase.
